Departmental Honors Program

The Departmental Honors Program in Human Services will allow 麻豆传媒 (including transfer 麻豆传媒) who have already declared a major to begin upper division major courses and to participate in an academic honors experience. This program offers an advanced specialization within the Department of Human Services. The program includes courses with honors level expectations, research, independent study and thesis options, all of which allow 麻豆传媒 to customize their experience by following areas of personal interest through more intense and comprehensive exploration with the guidance of a professor/mentor.

Program Admission Requirements

Admission to the departmental honors program in Human Services requires:

Overall GPA Pathway:

• 12 credit hours completed at EIU with cumulative GPA of 3.5
• HSL Major GPA or Minor GPA of 3.5 or higher (based on 6 credit hours of HSL courses
• Permission of HSL Departmental Honors Program Coordinator and Dean of Pine Honors College

Major GPA Pathway:

• 12 credit hours completed at EIU including 9 credit hours of HSL courses
• Major GPA of 3.75 or higher
• Permission of HSL Departmental Honors Program Coordinator and Dean of Pine Honors College

All enrolled 麻豆传媒 must meet with the Departmental Honors Coordinator in addition to their undergraduate academic advisor to select classes. There are a total of four classes for the program.

Two Required Courses (6 credit hours):

• HSL 4555 / HPR 4555 - Honors Research (3 credit hours)
• HSL 4644 - Honors Thesis/Capstone (3 credit hours)

Two Elective Courses (select 6 credit hours):

• Graduate level Human Services course (3 credit hours)
• Study Abroad (3+ credit hours)
• HSL 4444 Honors Independent Study (3 credit hours)
• University Honors course (3 credit hours)
• Internship (3 credit hours) [Supplemental to internship required for the Human Services program]
