When you attend EIU, you won’t be in it alone. Our Academic Success Center is here to provide you tutoring, consultation and a number of other resources designed to help you achieve your academic goals. Whether you need help with time management, test-taking or study methods, they can help!

Writing Center

Writing skills can place you at the front of the line in an increasingly challenging job market, but we also understand writing doesn’t come naturally to everyone. Workshops and individual sessions can assist Â鶹´«Ã½ from all disciplines, majors and academic backgrounds at any stage of the writing process.

TRIO

For first-generation or low-income Â鶹´«Ã½, academic assistance, financial guidance and counseling is available via TRIO Student Support Services. TRIO's help ranges from offering access to computer labs to helping Â鶹´«Ã½ plot their academic courses and prepare for life after their undergraduate studies.

First-Generation Student Resources

A first-generation student is someone whose parents did not complete a 4-year college or university degree, and who usually had little prior knowledge about how college works. These resources are meant to help first-generation Â鶹´«Ã½ navigate the college experience, including a glossary of college terms, a comparison between high school and college, and scholarship resources for first-generation Â鶹´«Ã½.

Accessibility & Accomodations

The Office of Accessibility and Accommodations offers a variety of services for Â鶹´«Ã½ with documented disabilities, collaborating with Â鶹´«Ã½ with documented disabilities to determine reasonable classroom accommodations, auxiliary aids, and support services that are individualized and based upon disability documentation, functional limitations, and a collaborative assessment of needs.

Academic Advising

The Academic Advising Center assists Â鶹´«Ã½ with course selection, career goals and major selection. The Center continues to be the hub of the network for those who advise Â鶹´«Ã½ across the entire campus of Eastern Illinois University.

Gateway Admission

At EIU, we know that ability is not always reflected by the numbers. Our Gateway Admission Program looks beyond GPA and test scores to discover the true potential of a student. Gateway provides Â鶹´«Ã½ with a personalized academic plan and individualized attention from academic advisors and coaches during their first year at Eastern.

Knack Peer Tutoring

EIU has partnered with Knack — a platform enabling EIU Â鶹´«Ã½ to book course-specific peer tutoring and mentoring services. Knack Tutors are fellow Â鶹´«Ã½ who have previously aced the courses they offer assistance in; tutoring is completely free and sessions can take place in-person or online.

Counseling Clinic

The Counseling Clinic helps to enhance psychological/emotional health, as well as promote the overall wellness of the campus student community through education, outreach, counseling services, consultation, and crisis services.
