UNIVERSITY APARTMENTS
Meeting the needs of student families and graduate Âé¶¹´«Ã½.
University Apartments is a fully furnished apartment complex designed to meet the needs of student families and graduate Âé¶¹´«Ã½. All utilities including local telephone service, ethernet service, cable television service, water, gas, electric, and trash removal are included in the rent.
ELIGIBILITY
Graduate Âé¶¹´«Ã½ enrolled in 6 semester hours (minimum) each semester at EIU or be an undergraduate student enrolled in 9 semester hours (minimum) each semester at EIU or Lakeview College of Nursing and meet one of the following requirements:
- be married living with a spouse
- be a parent living with a dependent child (or children) full-time
- be 25 years of age
Married applicants must provide the Office of University Housing & Dining Services with a certified courthouse copy of their marriage certificate. A State of Illinois criminal background check is also required for all non-student adult spouse occupants of the apartments prior to receiving an assignment. There is an $18 fee for background checks. Checks are made payable to Eastern Illinois University.
Parents must provide a certified courthouse copy of the child’s birth certificate. This information must be provided prior to assignment.
APPLICATION TIMELINE
- Email Housing to request access to the online University Apartments application. Only those who qualify for University Apartments will gain access.
- Submit the housing application* and $50 non-refundable application fee to establish a priority date for the assignment process. Once the housing application has been submitted and the non-refundable fee has been paid, your application will stay on file forever. *Students must be accepted to the university before they can complete the housing application.
- The University Apartment contract will be available beginning in March for the fall semester and October for spring semester admits. A link to the contract will be emailed to the student’s EIU email address once the student has submitted the housing application and application fee.
- Apartment assignment letters will be mailed to all Âé¶¹´«Ã½ who have completed an apartment contract in June (fall semester) or December (spring semester).
- Pay the Housing Down Payment of $100 due in July 1 (fall semester) or January 1 (spring semester) regardless of financial aid status. The deadline to cancel the contract is July 1 (fall semester) and January 1 (spring semester).
