Thanksgiving Break – Residence Halls and Greek Court close at 8:00 pm on Friday, Nov 22, 2024. Buildings will re-open at 1:00 pm on Sunday, December 1, 2024.
The Dining Centers will be consolidated to South Quad Dining on Friday, Nov 22, 2024 and will close at 6:00 p.m. Dining Centers will re-open on Monday, December 2, 2024.
University Court does not close during the break, but you still must fill out a request form if you plan to stay.
If you need to stay on campus during Break, you must fill out a request form.

The Dining Centers will be consolidated to South Quad Dining on Friday, December 13, 2024. South Quad Dining will close at 6:00 p.m. Dining will reopen on January 11, 2025 with South Quad Dining opening at 11:00 a.m. and Tower Dining opening at 4:00 p.m..

The Dining Centers will be consolidated to South Quad Dining on Friday, May 9, 2025. South Quad will close at 6:00 p.m.
All Residence Hall and Greek Court Âé¶¹´«Ã½ must schedule a checkout date and time with a housing staff member (Resident Assistant or Senior Staff Assistant). Failure to check out properly results in a $100 improper check out charge and a potential $60 lock re-core charge.  Contact your RA or SSA to schedule your timeslot.

Move-out steps
You should plan to complete all these steps prior to your scheduled check-out time.
Step 1:  Schedule your checkout with your RA or SSA.
Step 2:  Pack your belongings and clear everything out of your room.
· All items must be removed from your room – you must take everything with you or put things in the trash.
· You will need to provide your own plastic bins or boxes for transporting your belongings.
· You should bag and remove all trash to the appropriate outside containers. A limited number of additional trash bags may be available in the lobby.
· On-campus storage is not available. If you cannot take your items home, you must secure your own off-campus storage.
Step 3: Return your room furniture to the bunk configuration and the room arrangement according to the instructions in the room layouts below. There will also be printed copies at the front desk of your hall. Please place any additional furniture pins in your top desk drawer.

Step 4: Clean your room. Wipe down desk/dressers/all furniture and vacuum carpets. Remove sticky tack, tape, etc. off walls.
NOTE FOR STUDENTS WITH ADHESIVE LED LIGHTS: Removing the adhesive LED lights may cause damage to your walls, and you will be responsible for up to $500 if damage occurs. Please leave the LED lights up and also leave the remote and power supply.
Step 5: Find your staff member at your scheduled check-out time. Your staff member will come to your room to view it and confirm you’ve moved everything out. You will turn in your keys to your RA at this time. Billing for any cleaning or damage charges will be put on your Student Account.
Additional Information
Microfridge Return: If you rented a microfridge through Campus Fridges, please leave your microfridge in your room for pick up after closing. You should follow the cleaning instructions here.
Mail: We are unable to forward mail to off-campus or home addresses. Mail received over the summer will be returned to the sender. Please make address changes with your subscriptions, online shopping accounts, etc.  If Âé¶¹´«Ã½ need to update their permanent address, Âé¶¹´«Ã½ can send the information to records@eiu.edu from their Panthermail account, or contact the Registrar's Office for additional instructions at 217-581-3511.

Need to stay past closing dates?
If you need to stay beyond May 9, you must fill out a request form available here: Request To Stay Form (Coming Soon)
One of the following conditions must apply to you in order to make this request:
1. You are graduating
2. Your sibling is graduating
3. You are participating in graduation in the band or as a graduation marshal
4. You are a Summer Staff Member (Conference Assistant, RA, Orientation Leader or Dining Service Student Supervisor)
5. You are attending Summer classes and you have signed a Summer Housing Contract.

TO PREPARE YOU FOR THE BREAK
Summer Break Housing
Available for those Âé¶¹´«Ã½ who need to stay on campus when the rest of the University closes for breaks (longer than three days) for an additional fee. Buildings that offer break housing are Lawson, Lincoln, Powell-Norton, Stevenson and Taylor Halls.

Summer Housing
Summer 2025 Housing will be offered in Ford Hall for Âé¶¹´«Ã½ enrolled in the 4-week, 6-week, or 8-week summer school sessions. Contracts can be signed in the Housing Office, located in the lower level of the MLK Jr. University Union.
Students who currently reside in University Court AND have already signed a contract
to live in University Court for fall may have the option of remaining in University
Court if they will be enrolled in summer courses; however, the same unit may not be
guaranteed. For University Court summer eligibility and contract questions, please

Dining
The 12+ Meal Plan is the only option offered during the summer. Students will receive $25 in dining dollars during the 4-week session, $35 in dining dollars during the 6-week session, and $50 in dining dollars during the 8-week session.
In general, a Dining Center will be open for lunch and dinner, Monday through Thursday for the dates of May 18-May 31, and breakfast, lunch and dinner, Monday through Thursday for the dates of June 1-July 26. Depending on the summer camps/conferences schedule, additional meals may be available on Friday/Saturdays/Sundays.
Dining services will not be provided on May 26, 2025 (Memorial Day), June 19, 2025 (Juneteenth) and July 4, 2025 (Independence Day). Dining Services may also offer limited or no service when there are no camps or conferences scheduled on campus.
Students should monitor the online menus for specific dates/times that each center will be open throughout the summer.
