Financial Aid Grants to Students – Spring 2022
This payment exhausts the remaining HEERF III ARP student funding available. Due to limited funds remaining, EIU prioritized Â鶹´«Ã½ with demonstrated need. Grants were awarded to undergraduate Â鶹´«Ã½ who received a Pell grant for the 21-22 aid year and who were enrolled in traditional on campus programs for Spring 2022 as of March 17, 2022. Grants were paid at $60 per current enrolled credit hour. Guest, Lakeview, IDOC, International, and Â鶹´«Ã½ in Online programs were not eligible. ARP funds can be applied to a student’s balance due with their consent – Â鶹´«Ã½ are asked to answer a disbursement authorization on PAWS for this purpose. An email communication was sent to notify Â鶹´«Ã½ and provide instructions for answering the disbursement authorization.
Financial Aid Grants to Students – Fall 2021
All non-guest, non-Lakeview, non-IDOC Â鶹´«Ã½ enrolled for Fall 2021 as of November 3, 2021 were awarded grants based on their current enrolled credit hours. EIU prioritized Â鶹´«Ã½ who are Pell-eligible with a 2:1 ratio for assistance per credit hour at $90 per credit hour/ $45 per credit hour for Â鶹´«Ã½ who are not identifiable as Pell-eligible. ARP funds can be applied to a student’s balance due with their consent – Â鶹´«Ã½ are asked to answer a disbursement authorization on PAWS for this purpose. An email communication was sent to notify Â鶹´«Ã½ and provide instructions for answering the disbursement authorization.
The ARP has two new required uses of HEERF III Institutional Portion grant funds for public and private nonprofit institutions in which a portion of funds must be used to: (a) implement evidence-based practices to monitor and suppress coronavirus in accordance with public health guidelines; and (b) conduct direct outreach to financial aid applicants about the opportunity to receive a financial aid adjustment due to the recent unemployment of a family member or independent student, or other circumstances, described in section 479A of the HEA.

The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA) made it possible to award Â鶹´«Ã½ emergency financial aid grants, which can be used for any component of the cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care), or child care.
CRRSAA requires that institutions prioritize Â鶹´«Ã½ with exceptional need, such as Â鶹´«Ã½ who receive Pell Grants, in awarding financial aid grants to Â鶹´«Ã½. However, Â鶹´«Ã½ do not need to be Pell recipients or Â鶹´«Ã½ who are eligible for Pell grants to be identified as having exceptional need. In addition, the CRRSAA explicitly provides that financial aid grants to Â鶹´«Ã½ may be provided to Â鶹´«Ã½ exclusively enrolled in distance education.
Phase 1: Prioritized Â鶹´«Ã½ who are Pell-eligible with a 5:2 ratio for assistance per credit hour at $50 per credit hour/ $20 per credit hour for Â鶹´«Ã½ who are not identifiable as Pell-eligible. CRRSAA funds can be applied to a student’s balance due with their consent – Â鶹´«Ã½ are asked to answer a disbursement authorization on PAWS for this purpose.
All non-guest, non-Lakeview Â鶹´«Ã½ who do not have foreign or international residency registered for Spring 2021 at the time of distribution.
The CARES Act allowed institutions to establish COVID-19 emergency programs in order to provide emergency financial aid grants to Â鶹´«Ã½ enrolled for Spring, Summer or Fall 2020 semesters with extraordinary one-time education-related costs that have arisen as a result of disruption of campus operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The intent of the funding is to support Â鶹´«Ã½ experiencing a temporary financial hardship for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the coronavirus. The COVID-19 emergency financial aid grants are limited and not intended to provide ongoing relief. EIU has disbursed this funding in phases according to current student needs.
Phase 1: May 20, 2020 - Each eligible student received $30.00 per enrolled Spring semester credit hour as of May 12, 2020. This payment was applied and refunded directly to the student.
Phase 2: Applications were accepted for Spring and Summer 2020 from May 28, 2020 through August 1, 2020. Emergency financial aid grants could be requested for emergency support for expenses such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and childcare as it relates to the disruption of campus operations due to the coronavirus for the remainder of the spring semester, summer semester, and for planning for the upcoming fall semester.
Phase 3:
Emergency financial aid grants are awarded in accordance with federal, state and institutional rules and regulations. Please note that Â鶹´«Ã½ were asked to provide documentation of their situation if possible. This could include third-party statements, bills, receipts, or other information verifying need. The highest level of sensitivity and privacy was given to all requests.
If approved, the financial aid grant was given to the student as a direct refund, meaning it is disbursed out of the student account. We recommend Â鶹´«Ã½ have direct deposit information on file with Student Accounts in order to receive the grant quickly once disbursed.
