The Student Life Office strives to promote, complement and enrich the EIU Âé¶¹´«Ã½â€™ experience outside the classroom by providing social, cultural, and educational programming, celebrating diversity and inclusion, providing opportunities for leadership development, and student involvement.
The Student Life Office is a department within the Dean of Students, dedicated to helping Âé¶¹´«Ã½ "make things happen."
Through various programs and services, it is our mission to provide a variety of co-curricular experiences designed to enrich the social, cultural, educational, and personal development of EIU Âé¶¹´«Ã½; promote student leadership, civic responsibility and respect for diversity; empower and encourage EIU Âé¶¹´«Ã½ to reach their full potential in a student-centered, supportive environment. Our trained, professional staff works collaboratively and is dedicated to the personal growth, development, and success of Âé¶¹´«Ã½ within the EIU community.
The Student Life Office takes administrative responsibility for student government, campus entertainment (University Board), multicultural programming, leadership support services, and more than 200 registered student organizations, all designed to promote leadership opportunities, innovative programs, and meaningful relationships outside the classroom.
Annual programs and events include Quakin' the Quad, First Night, Homecoming Week, Family Weekend, major concerts, Pantherpalooza, MBEIU Pageant, Up All Nite, Pantherstock, and the iLEAD workshop series.
Our office provides numerous services and programs aimed toward assisting EIU Âé¶¹´«Ã½, and we encourage them to take advantage of these countless opportunities as they explore their personal interests, learn new skills, take on leadership roles, join student organizations, and meet new friends!
The Black Student Union allows Âé¶¹´«Ã½ of all races to rejoice in African American culture, lifestyles, history, and activities. The BSU has brought many activities to Eastern Illinois University, including the annual Miss Black EIU pageant, spring fashion show, union parties, and forums. The Diversity Advisory Council will foster the enhancement of Eastern Illinois University's minority student organizations through collaboration, encouragement, and integration. Click here for more information on the DAC.
The Latin American Student Organization works with Âé¶¹´«Ã½, faculty, staff, and other community resources to address issues of diversity, particularly as they relate to Latino Âé¶¹´«Ã½, by reaching out to other groups to expand our horizons and gather information on other societies in the surrounding area.
