Internships

Internships have been described as the new entry level job. They provide a valuable opportunity for Â鶹´«Ã½ to gain professional work experience, expand their network, and learn about their own strengths and interests. Students in the School of Business complete internships in organizations of every size; in location in Illinois, across the country, or as part of a study abroad experience; and are typically paid for their work, along with the opportunity to earn academic credit. Students find that their business classes and involvement on campus help them develop the skills they need to succeed during an internship. Have you considered adding an internship to your academic and career plan?

Benefits of an internship:

  • You supplement your classroom learning with workplace experience.
  • You obtain hands-on experience of the responsibilities and expectations of specific jobs.
  • You gain in-depth knowledge of an organization that allows you to evaluate if it is compatible with you and your professional goals.
  • You can make networking contacts to help you in your career development.
  • You earn credentials to include on your resume.
  • You learn about your own strengths and interests to help you better plan your career.

Employer Guide to Internships

Internships are becoming increasingly important for both Â鶹´«Ã½ and employers. A survey found that 67 percent of the class of 2013 had completed at least one internship. A survey of employers, released in 2013, found that internship experience is the number one attribute that employers look for in college graduates.

We, in the School of Business, value each opportunity to connect our area employers with our business majors.
