Learning and Skill Development
Discovery Hours, Technology Workshops, and Learning Labs
Discovery Hours, Technology Workshops, and Learning Labs at the CSI provide the framework to equip faculty and Â鶹´«Ã½ with the skills needed to effectively use technology.
Discovery Hours are when Â鶹´«Ã½ and faculty can receive hands-on coaching of technological equipment. CSI staff will be available to answerquestions and give demonstrations. Discovery Hours are held from 4 pm-5:30 pm Monday through Thursday with no appointment required.
CSI Technology Workshops introduce technologies available at the CSI to those with no previous experience. Attendance of these introductory courses is encouraged before the reservation of the CSI’s Podcasting Studio, 3D printers, and green screens to instruct users on how to best utilize the equipment for their educational and personal needs. The workshops are hosted throughout the semester.
Students, faculty, and staff can make a reservation to attend a workshop through .
Learning Labs provide in-depth instruction on technological equipment and programs for educational and personal purposes. Learning Labs are recurring and scheduled throughout the semester, but tailored demonstrations and co-curricular training sessions are available upon request to fit specific courses, learning assessments, and creative opportunities.
Students, faculty, and staff can make a reservation to attend a Learning Lab through .
The Active Learning Classroom
The Faculty Development and Innovation Center (FDIC) supports faculty in incorporating new technologies and methods into their teaching. The Active Learning Classroom (ALC) serves as an ideal environment for faculty to experiment with innovative instructional techniques. FDIC instructional design support is available for faculty interested in utilizing the ALC. During course sessions in the ALC, CSI technical support is available to help
faculty implement and refine new approaches.
Faculty can reserve the ALC for course sessions through the CSI Reservation website.
Digital Scholarship
The FDIC, Booth Library, and the CSI are dedicated to supporting faculty innovation by providing access to technology and skill development opportunities. Our goal is to help faculty incorporate digital tools, technologies, and methodologies (digital scholarship) into
their teaching to enhance teaching methods and learning outcomes.
In Spring 2025, the FDIC will be seeking participants in a new community of practice for those interested in incorporating digital scholarship into their teaching. Participants will be able to share knowledge, collaborate on innovative approaches, and support each other in incorporating new digital tools and methods. This community will help identify any needs
for additional training, technical support, and new technology.
