Students in the professional writing major sharpen their writing and editing skills, learn about visual communication and digital communication environments and communication ethics, and put their skills to work on real projects throughout their time in the program. The program helps prepare Â鶹´«Ã½ to work as professional communicators in the business world, in the nonprofit sector, or in a variety of professions.
At EIU, professional writing Â鶹´«Ã½ complete real, hands-on projects for real clients in each course. In addition, they complete at least one internship with the support of a faculty internship coordinator who helps Â鶹´«Ã½ get placements and make the most of their internships. So by the end of their degree, our Â鶹´«Ã½ have a portfolio of professional writing and editing work to show potential employers.
Many of the courses in the professional writing concentration are offered both online and face-to-face (in alternate semesters). So whether you want the flexibility of online classes or prefer the traditional classroom, we've got you covered.
